Purdue University is going forward, after all, with plans to expand the First Street Towers luxury residence complex. Last month officials said they were placing summer construction plans on hold to get a better sense of fluctuations in the economy and incoming student enrollment numbers. Officials expect to save nearly $2 million by putting the $20 million project to bid now, a time when the construction industry is seeing fewer jobs and increased competition between contractors.
