EVANSVILLE COURIER & PRESS - Dan Shaw

EVANSVILLE -- The city is close to soliciting bids from companies that may want to demolish several Main Street buildings, clearing the way for a new arena. That's what John Kish, the director of the arena project, told the Evansville Redevelopment Commission on Tuesday. So far this year, the commission has agreed to pay about $2.03 million to buy properties in the 600 block of Main Street, plus $437,000 to help move the four owners displaced. David W. Lamont, who owns the building at 609 Main St., said he plans to move his law firm out of there by January. He will reopen it in a property at 413 Main St., which he will have repainted and otherwise renovated. That schedule will let Lamont keep a $50,000 incentive which was included in the $550,000 offered him to cover moving costs. The $50,000 is to be returned to the city if Lamont isn't out of his current building by early January. Link
